James Ellroy is responsible for some of the greatest crime fiction and even one of the greatest crime movies in the history of medium, a talent that developed from a very dark place in his life. His mother was murdered when he was just a boy and her case has still gone unsolved despite his best efforts to crack the case more than 50 years later. Learn more about the man’s life, work and legacy from the man himself when the USA Film Festival will hold a live Q&A with the author of The Black Dahila, The Big Nowhere, LA Confidential and the upcoming Perfidia at the Angelika Film Center (5321 Mockingbird Ln.) starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The evening starts with a reception and a reading from Ellroy’s new book, a live Q&A with Dallas Morning News film critic Chris Vognar and a screening of LA Confidential. Tickets for the reception and the movie are $32 in advance. More info at usafilmfestival.org.
