It seems photographer Peter Calvin has a thing for gas stations. And parking lots. And intersections. You know, all the things that are usually considered the eyesores of our concrete jungle domain. But somehow Calvin makes them look a lot more interesting and, at times, even beautiful. Images of the Built Environment in Texas and Mexico, a new exhibit on display at the Afterimage Gallery (2800 Routh St., Suite 141), collects several of Calvin’s urban images, shot in both Dallas and the town of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico–two vastly different locales to be sure, but not as different as you might think, at least when you view them through Calvin’s lens. The exhibit runs through October 21. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call 214-871-9140 or visit afterimagegallery.com.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Starts: Sept. 12. Continues through Oct. 21, 2009
