I want to know how the whole hitting-people-with-a-sword-while-knighting-them thing came about. It seems to me that if you truly respect someone, you should do the opposite of hitting them with a sword. Like, say, not hitting them with a sword. And if that’s what they do when they knight someone, what about when they give you a life peerage? Sure, you become a “Lord,” but do they also stab you in the heart? Lord Norman Foster could tell us. He’s chairman for the internationally renowned architectural firm Foster & Partners, and he’s giving a lecture 10:30 a.m. Friday at the AT&T Performing Arts Center, 2100 Ross Ave. He’ll be presenting his designs for the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House and the Annette Strauss Artist’s Square.
