The process for encaustic is a fairly ancient, time-consuming labor of love. But oh, what wonderful pieces can be made using the encaustic technique of layering pigmented and resin-treated wax and fusing it with heat. The process creates intricate, yet sometimes unexpected surface detail, and the pigments can range from muted hues to intense and vivid hues, depending on the layering. Tarrant County College’s Art Corridor II (on the Southeast Campus, 2100 Southeast Parkway in Arlington) celebrates the technique–and the artists of Texas WAX/Dallas who use it–with Encaustic Methods and Techniques.
