Pink started off as a charter member of the “girl singer” onslaught that trampled the pop charts at the turn of the century. She broke out a few years later, re-emerging as a tough, punkish upstart bending the rules of pop music by mixing elements of dance and hip-hop production into her style. Whatever she did worked–she has since sold more than 31 million albums worldwide. Not bad in this day of free downloads and dying record companies. Her super-gaudy 2001 collaboration with Christina Aguilera, Li’l Kim and Mya on Labelle’s classic “Lady Marmalade” provided a huge boost for her career and won all kinds of awards. Her mega hit, “Get the Party Started” showcased her recent dance-pop hybrid sound and is still arguably her most recognizable song, receiving tons of airplay all over the world. Her concerts are a spectacle of energy and showmanship and have consistently drawn huge, adoring crowds who come to bask in the glow of Pink, who’s bringing her pop magic to Dallas this week along with opening act, The Ting Tings, an English new wave duo who have a lot of buzz themselves.
