Only in today’s world can a street artist like Banksy become a household name. What was once considered vandalism is now seen as priceless art, and a guy who would have been a criminal years ago is now an Academy Award-nominated artist and director. Yet with all of his fame and fortune, Banksy is as elusive as ever, making his recent foray into the world of film even more interesting both on- and off-screen. Intended to be a documentary created by the street art-obsessed Thierry Guetta, Exit Through the Gift Shop instead became one of the most entertaining films of 2010, hoax or not, as it shifts direction midstream and focuses on Guetta himself, reinvented as artist Mr. Brainwash. The film explores what is art, who is an artist and whether it even matters as only Banksy can. Together with the Dallas Film Society, the AT&T Performing Arts Center is continuing its summer-long program of Sunset Screenings this weekend with a presentation of Exit Through the Gift Shop, letting you be the judge. Concessions will be available and chairs will be available for the first 500 reservations. Exit Through the Gift Shop starts at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Annette Strauss Square, 2403 Flora St., and admission is free. Call 214-764-9106 or visit attpac.org.

Sat., Aug. 20, 8:30 p.m., 2011
