Some may remember Elvis Presley as the bloated king of rock ’n’ roll who bought Cadillacs like they were Kleenex and invented recipes that could make a diabetic keel over by scent alone. But there was a time when the Mississippi-born musician was young and fresh-faced. When he breathed new life into music and even movies with his unique sound and groundbreaking style. Presley’s manager, Colonel Tom Parker, generally went a bit overboard with the movie roles, but the 1957 release of the movie-musical Jailhouse Rock is prime example of Presley’s work on the big screen. The Alamo Drafthouse will celebrate the King’s 80th birthday with a screening of this timeless rock classic at their Richardson theater (100 S. Central Expressway). Tickets are $7 for the 7:30 p.m. screening.

Thu., Jan. 8, 7:30 p.m., 2015
