The creepiest showbiz confession ever was Ryan O’Neal’s admission that during the funeral for Farrah Fawcettt, he tried to hit on a woman who turned out to be his estranged daughter, Tatum. Like Ryan O’Neal, the protagonist of Elinor Lipton’s The Family Man reconnects with a long-lost relative after a chance encounter in which he doesn’t recognize her. What makes it a screwball comedy instead of a cautionary horror tale is that it’s his stepdaughter, and he doesn’t flirt with her at his own girlfriend’s funeral.
