“Abra-abra-cadabra, I want to reach out and grab ya!” Let’s hope Sugar Ray’s got a little magic up their sleeve with the release of their latest album, Music for Cougars. After a five-year wait, the band that brought listeners hits like “Someday” and “Every Morning” is back with a whole new sound–well, maybe not entirely new. I don’t think they’ll ever lose the ability to create those catchy songs that grate on your ever-loving nerves after a while. Still, their new album has the potential for a few more No. 1 hits with tunes like “Morning Song” and “Rainbow.” And I have to give them credit; they’ve added some Jamaican/beach sounds to the mix. Anything that’s got a Bob Marley feel brings me back to the fact that I shouldn’t be sitting in a cubicle writing about summer–I should be dipping into warm Mediterranean waters in that red two-piece I bought last summer before I dive into turtlenecks and scarves. At 8 p.m. Sunday, Sugar Ray performs with special guests Fastball and Aimee Allen at the House of Blues. Doors open at 7 p.m., and tickets can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com.
