For those of you hoping for a lectures series that explores the challenges of straight, white men in theater, we deeply apologize. WaterTower Theatre wanted to do that, they really did — the stories were so interesting and captivating! — but it seems that stories of men in performing arts are “commonplace” and “pretty much the norm,” and lack the building blocks of a compelling discussion. Bummer. Instead, WaterTower is throwing the ladies a bone with their “Women in Theatre” program, which delves into the dramatic art’s trials and triumphs from a female perspective. This inaugural discussion will be moderated by the Dallas Observer’s own Arts and Culture Editor Lauren Smart; stage directors Phyllis Cicero of Jubilee Theatre, Kelsey Leigh Ervi of WaterTower, Cheryl Denson of Uptown Players, Katherine Owens of Undermain Theatre and Susan Sargeant of Wingspan Theatre will also contribute insight. Each will inspire as they relate their experiences in the demanding world of theater. Grab a seat at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Addison Theatre Center (15650 Addison Road, Addison).
