When England’s Beth Orton met Midlake at the Mojo Magazine Awards last year, the artists got along so well that they discussed working together in the near future. And while that sort of thing happens all the time in music to no end result, Orton and Midlake may actually have something brewing.
This week, Orton will visit North Texas to check in with her new Denton-dwelling pals. She’ll perform, too, at Dan’s Silverleaf in a gig that Midlake set up for her. And while there’s still no official word on recording or if the band will perform in any way with Orton at this show, the fact is Orton’s an artist worth seeing. Her career is marked with collaborations with William Orbit, Ryan Adams and Jim O’Rourke, among others, and her brilliant mix of trippy dance-pop and intricate folk is as exciting now as it was when she debuted it in 1996.
Two or three times a year, Dan’s scores itself a can’t-miss talent. This is one of those occasions.
