He’s been called many things in his career: the King of Queens, a mall cop, that guy who was on “The King of Queens” and that guy in that movie about that mall cop. But before he earned all of those titles, Kevin James got his start the way most top-ranking comedy stars did, as a stand-up. And James hasn’t let being on a national broadcast network for nine seasons or in the wheelhouse of Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions stop him from giving live, unscripted performances, either. (We’re looking at you, Eddie Murphy.) Despite his rigorous film schedule for the next Paul Blart: Mall Cop movie, and planned roles in the upcoming video-game comedy Pixels and Hotel Transylvania 2, James still takes time to polish the stand-up skills that made him famous. That’s why he’s making a stop at the Verizon Theatre (1001 Performance Place, Grand Prairie) at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets range from $39.75 and $75. More information at verizontheatre.com.
