Comparisons with Office Space are inevitable, but Buzzard lacks the romanticism of Mike Judge’s comedy classic about sticking it to the man. Things Buzzard also lacks: a moral center, warm fuzzies, redemption. What it does have in spades is a lead character so punk rock, so amoral, so emotionally bereft that you simultaneously root for him and want to punch him. Joel Potrykus’ third film features Joshua Burge as Marty, a temp who executes a number of small, brainless scams against his employer that drive him into a paranoid state that somehow seems only to feed his I-don’t-give-a-flying-flip ethos. Much like watching a buzzard dive into its prey, Potrykus’ movie will make you queasy — but you won’t be able to look away.
