Food for Thought is a cleverly named gala to benefit Big Thought, a Dallas nonprofit serving some 300,000 students and teachers with creative learning programs inside and outside the classroom. Thriving Minds summer camps, for example, offer artistic and cultural enrichment at no cost to children. They’re also–as I suspect 99 percent of campers’ parents (including myself) view them–free day care. But no matter the parental motivation for sending kids, Big Thought programs are a terrific community resource deserving of support. To that end, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers has gathered donations for a silent auction and assembled a cast of celebrity chefs (including Food Network near-star Lisa Garza, Abraham Salum and Sam Dickey of the late, great Zymology) to cook. Food for Thought is 7 p.m. Friday at the Tower Club, 1601 Elm St., No. 4800. Cost is $75. Visit foodforthoughtdallas.com.
