More than 30,000 people in the United States are living with cystic fibrosis, and 1,000 new cases are diagnosed each year. In the 1950s, many children with CF didn’t make it through elementary school. Today, improved medical treatments and research allow those affected by CF to enjoy an increased quality of life (and more of it). Still, the life expectancy rate for someone with this genetic, lung and digestive system disease is 37 years. Rockers Kirk and Rebecca Dixon (of local acts El Gato and Lovie) took matters into their own hands when their daughter, Violet, was diagnosed with CF at 15 months. They organized UltraViolet. The 3rd Annual UltraViolet Rock Show and Art Auction will feature seven bands (El Gato, Lovie, The Boom Boom Box, The Happy Bullets, The O’s, The Felons and The Monco Poncho) and original artwork supplied by Dallas artists. Admission is a $7 minimum donation, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Rock out for a good cause on Saturday at Club Dada.
