Sweeney Todd had me captivated at, “There’s a hole in the world like a great black pit, and it’s filled with people who are filled with shit!” But did you know that the character is more than 100 years old? Sweeney Todd originally appeared in The String of Pearls, a British fiction publication, in 1846. In 2007, the creepy, but sometimes oddly likable Mr. Todd was resurrected in Tim Burton’s Oscar-winning big-screen adaptation of the 1979 musical version. Mmm, Johnny Depp. This week, Sweeney Todd is back in North Texas! Take two heaping bites of your meat pie if you’re as excited as I am! Live performances will run at the Granville Arts Center in Garland, Thursday through May 9. The Granville Arts Center is located at 300 N. Fifth St. in Garland. Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2:30 p.m. Starts: April 16. Continues through May 9, 2009
