Naming a play after a Betty Wright hit song of the ’70s, playwright J.D. Lawrence sure knows how to point out one particularly messy solution of marital woes. The national touring production of Lawrence’s The Clean Up Woman, opening this week, is not feminist-friendly–it’s the story of journalist Terri Adams, who, torn between her job and her husband’s desire for her to tend to the homestead, hires a cleaning lady who’s especially good at her own kind of picking up. Check out this Tuesday’s performance at 8 p.m. (with additional performances through February 15) at the Naomi Bruton Main Stage of The Black Academy of Arts and Letters, located in the Dallas Convention Center Theatre Complex, 650 S.
