The common theme of Deft Touch, an art exhibit on display this month at Mighty Fine Arts, is a re-examination of ordinary objects that explores their deeper meaning, aesthetics and subtle humor. Artist Anne Allen examines household items–wallpaper patterns, doilies, hairnets, etc.–while fellow exhibitor Luke Sides’ portfolio includes sculptures such as “Self Portrait,” featuring bronze Hostess cakes, and “Stainless Undies,” made of stainless steel. Also appearing is Brad Ford Smith’s site-specific installation, “Just Below the Skin a River Flows,” which addresses the many functions of the epidermis as a sensory receiver and the packaging for human emotions. Deft Touch runs through March 22 at Mighty Fine Arts, 419 N. Tyler St. in Oak Cliff; hours are 12 to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Call 214-942-5241 or visit mfagallery.com for more information.

Saturdays, Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Feb. 28. Continues through March 22, 2009
