Most sane people quiver, cower and take cover in the face of extreme weather. We evacuate in the face of hurricanes, seek sturdy shelter upon news of an impending tornado or earthquake, or move to higher ground when floodwater starts rising. When it comes to natural forces, it’s more often flight than fight. Unless, of course, your adrenaline rush comes from not only refusing to flee or hide, but actually heading directly into the core of a storm like Sean Casey, star of Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers. For four seasons, Casey and his team have shown no fear in following severe storms across middle America. But even that wasn’t enough; Casey wanted to see the birth of a tornado. Carrying his father’s 92-pound, $100,000 camera (his dad is IMAX director George Casey) and riding in a specially built, seven-ton “tornado intercept vehicle,” Casey tries to unravel the heart of a whirling monster. His quest turned into one of the most anticipated IMAX films, Tornado Alley, now playing at Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Omni Theater, 1600 Gendy St. in Fort Worth. The movie is shown daily on the Omni’s domed IMAX screen, and tickets are $7 for adults, $6 for children and seniors. Call 817-255-9540 or visit fortworthmuseum.org.
