Merriam-Webster’s Web site defines “grotto” as “1. Cave, 2. Artificial recess or structure made to resemble a natural cave.” In visual artist Adam Morey’s exhibition Grotto, he employs the use of light and its penetration of transparencies, its movement around opacities and other elements to achieve an unpredictable dialogue with the viewer. Information on Grotto claims that cognitive science purports that “perceptive thresholds” are constantly changing, thus it seems evident that Morey’s use of light as part of his art exploits both the recesses of his structures…and once we take that in, the recesses of that funky gray matter at the top of our necks. Morey’s works may not resemble actual caves, but they do signify both physical and mental challenges often found in nature’s caverns. Explore Grotto at DECORAZONgallery, 417 N. Bishop Ave. in the Bishop Arts District of Oak Cliff, Thursdays through Sundays through December 31. Call 214-946-1003 or visit decorazongallery.com.
