Ricky Skaggs, a prolific legend in his own time who worked his way through and up the ranks of country music and bluegrass and (not unlike Johnny Cash with June Carter) married into an established family of harmony makers, will be in Fort Worth–family in tow–to celebrate Christmas in song via A Skaggs Family Christmas. The Skaggs family circle, which includes Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder, The Whites (Ricky’s wife, Sharon, and his in-laws), and three members of the next generation of the Skaggs family–Ricky’s children, Luke and Molly Skaggs, and their cousin Rachel White–will rework many Christmas classics, as well as perform some original holiday songs. Performing at Bass Hall on Wednesday, the family promises to be heavy on tradition, which in the Skaggs’ case, includes some serious bluegrass jams, rich harmonies and countrified holiday sentiment. And for those who’d like a preview, the family did release A Skaggs Family Christmas in 2005, with recordings of many of the same holiday favorites included in the live show. Be at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday if you need a little Skaggs in your season. Call 1-877-212-4280 or visit basshall.com.
Wed., Dec. 10, 7:30 p.m., 2008
