Everyone has their own personal El Guapo. For some it’s shyness; for others, a lack of education. But for Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short it’s outdoing their legendary roles as Dusty Bottoms, Lucky Day and Ned Nederlander in Three Amigos! If you’ve been living under a rock since the mid-’80s, take note. They don’t make them like this anymore. The movie is a screwball comedy about three silent film actors who, after being fired from their roles in a popular series of Western films, accept an offer to work with the famous El Guapo in Mexico. Once there they find that El Guapo is not so much famous as he is an infamous villain, and the villagers of Santo Poco think they are real caballeros who have come to defend the town against him. It’s a classic SNL alum collaboration from the glory days and the source of much quoting. One might even say it contains a plethora of quotable one-liners. See gringos fall from the sky at midnight screenings of Three Amigos!, Friday and Saturday at the Inwood Theatre, 5458 W. Lovers Lane. Visit landmarktheatres.com.
