One of Texas’ most influential singer-songwriters, Robert Earl Keen has had songs covered by everyone from The Dixie Chicks and Jill Sobule to Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson. But as talented a songwriter as he is, Keen is also one heck of a masterful storyteller. Typically, his between-song banter consists of witty, down-home stories. And if you’re lucky, he’ll tell his most famous tale about the time his car caught fire at Willie Nelson’s 2nd annual Fourth of July picnic in 1974. Like Willie’s picnic, Keen’s annual eve-of-New-Year’s-Eve concerts at Bass Hall are becoming a bit of a Texas-country tradition. This year, singer-songwriter Toni Price opens the show with her country-blues-style tunes. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bass Hall, Fourth and Calhoun streets in Fort Worth.
