His face is on the one-dollar bill, the quarter and Mount Rushmore, and he may or may not have chopped down the cherry tree as a child. You know George Washington, but it’s unlikely you know the real George Washington. The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History offers you an opportunity to get to know him better with an exhibition featuring about 100 original objects associated with our country’s first president. Presented in 11 sections, Discover the Real George Washington: New Views from Mount Vernon displays items from Washington’s youth to the days before his death, including his dentures, paintings and surveying equipment, tools used by his slaves and jewelry worn by his wife, Martha. Save yourself a trip to Mount Vernon — Washington’s former estate in Virginia — and learn about Washington’s life through these one-of-a-kind artifacts, three life-size wax models of Washington, videos, interactive displays and more. Admission to the exhibition, which runs through January 22, is $14 for adults, $10 for children and seniors and free for museum members. Call 817-255-9300 or visit fortworthmuseum.org for more information.
Mondays-Saturdays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.; Sundays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 15. Continues through Jan. 22, 2011
