High-five for rocking, Dallas. We are finally getting a Girls Rock Camp of our very own. Back in December, music editor Audra Schroeder discussed the Dallas arm of the incredibly awesome organization with its founder/executive director Rachel Michaud, who explained the vision behind Girls Rock Camp: “We want to send girls out into the world with the realization that they can do anything they want to do, rather than just what society dictates to them.” That sounds to us like great motivation for girls 8-17 to wail on some instruments, but why the girls-only stance? “The whole reason for the all-girl atmosphere is to allow these girls to loosen up, stop being timid and express themselves in a judgment-free space,” Michaud explained. Before that badassery happens, though, check out a screening of Girls Rock: The Movie starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at LaGrange, 2704 Elm St. Watch campers transform into rock stars over the course of a week; it’s inspiring no matter what your age or gender. There’s a $10 suggested donation and all proceeds benefit Girls Rock Dallas. Visit GirlsRockDallas.org.
