I must admit, I’m having a hard time deciding how to spend the Labor Day weekend. (I totally won’t admit it’s the same weekend as my birthday because, um, that would just be tacky.) Right now, it’s a toss-up between the Michael Jackson cover band over at House of Blues or one of my all-time favorites at the Meyerson. The Gipsy Kings give one of the best live performances ever, all without ever really moving from one position onstage. It’s mostly because they let the music do the talking and, boy, does it. I just wonder, with that über-upbeat flamenco music that is irresistible to dance to, will people get up out of their chairs and get their groove on even in the stiff confines of the Meyerson? Once they bust out with “Bamboleo” or “Vamos a Bailar,” just try to keep me in my seat. I may as well go ahead and offer my apologies now to the people behind me…as well as to the Michael Jackson copycats because I think it’s pretty clear I’ve made up my mind. The Gipsy Kings will throw down at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St., at 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday. For tickets, call 214-692-0203 or visit DallasSymphony.com.
Sun., Aug. 31, 8 p.m.; Mon., Sept. 1, 8 p.m., 2008
