Chick flick and timely throwback to the sounds of dancing queens, the film version of Mamma Mia! opened to impressive box-office action, but is it really any surprise? The stage version of Mamma Mia! has been an international hit since its West End debut almost 10 years ago, so it’s only natural that the film adaptation would be one as well. Set on a Greek island, the story’s about an American girl with a My Two Dads twist–is he British, Swedish or American?–set to the tune of everyone’s favorite Swedes singing songs such as “Chiquita,” “Voulez-Vous” and “Waterloo.” Mamma Mia! is coming to town for a week’s worth of performances at Casa Mañana Theatre (3101 W. Lancaster Ave.) in Fort Worth, so be sure to dance into Tuesday night’s opening performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 to $88. Call 817-332-2272 or visit casamanana.org.
Tue., Sept. 9, 7:30 p.m.; Wed., Sept. 10, 7:30 p.m.; Thu., Sept. 11, 7:30 p.m.; Fri., Sept. 12, 8 p.m.; Sat., Sept. 13, 2 & 8 p.m.; Sun., Sept. 14, 2 & 7 p.m., 2008
