Sehnsucht, a German “composite” word, loosely translates to “aspiration” or “longing” in English–at least, that’s the closest we can come since there’s no literal match. It’s an appropriate term for the title of the latest Light & Sie exhibition featuring former fashion powerhouse Hedi Slimane, photographer Jeremy Kotz, multimedia wiz Kimsooja and seven others. Why? Well, because these artists have all made an impact via their art, and here their works will discuss beauty in and of itself. The show is a bit of a double whammy, just like its title. Anyone viewing the works will hopefully discover that universal sense of longing for the beauty of another time, another soul or what have you. And we can leave with aspirations of bringing beauty back home, creating our own beauty or, at least, learning to appreciate the value of artistic effort. Sehnsucht shows Tuesdays through Saturdays through September 6 at Light & Sie, 129 Leslie St. Call 214-745-2255 or visit lightandsie.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: July 31. Continues through Sept. 6, 2008
