Tis the season for mummies, werewolves and vampires, and thankfully, we have Teatro Dallas to help us along with our imaginations. Every year, Teatro celebrates the Day of the Dead with a creepy, scary show that works out oh-so perfectly with Halloween. Forget your usual trick-or-treating or block parties or haunted houses. Instead, catch the annual theatrical offering with their production of Don Juan the Vampire, which tells the tale of a bloodsucker who lures women to their doom, scoffs at society’s values and perhaps meets his match in Dona Ines. Could even this demonic villain’s heart be sated, or is it just seduction at work? Whether love conquers all or just his thirst remains to be seen. Cora Cardona’s adaptation moves Jose Zorilla’s play from 16th-century Seville to urban 1950s and highlights it with ’80s punk rock. Now that’s a quantum leap. Don Juan the Vampire runs Saturday through November 1 with a special Day of the Dead performance November 2 at Teatro Dallas, 1331 Record Crossing Road. Tickets are $18 for adults and $15 for students, seniors and children. November 2 tickets are $25 which includes a Day of the Dead reception.
