Pop culture has a way of overdoing it when it comes to ridiculing various temporary touchstones that helped define a certain point in time (where’s your Girbaud jeans these days?). Even more to the point, comedians often fall prey to this gantlet of hipster-ness. For a while, they are laughed with as they star in HBO specials and even on the silver screen. But something happens, a switch gets flipped, and we all seem to know when it’s time for that comedian to suffer the brutal transition from being laughed with into being laughed at. (Carrot Top, anyone?). The 1990’s icon Sinbad has undergone that transition, but darn it, he’s back to get people convinced that he is worth laughing with.
