If you wave your Texas flag with pride, then this weekend you should go east of Big D and check out Mesquite’s Real. Texas. Festival. The Real Texans will come out and enjoy events like the Taste of Mesquite Barbecue Competition (a stepping stone to the National Barbecue Championship), Old West shootouts, the Mesquite Championship Rodeo and Texas music stars such as Stoney LaRue and The Killdares. The festival runs Friday through Sunday at Rodeo Centre Plaza in Mesquite (Interstate 635 and Military Parkway). Tickets are $5 for one day or $12 for a three-day pass, and kids younger than 17 get in free with the paid admission of an adult. Call 972-216-6499 or visit realtexasfestival.com.
