When one speaks of the Mexican culture, it’s not all corn tortillas, Guayaberas and other stereotypical things we associate with a fiesta (even as awesome as a kick-ass home-style fiesta may be). No, Northern Mexico has a bit more in common with the US than one might think as far as the ol’ melting pot is concerned. That’s why Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico pays tribute to diversity with their latest show Viva el Norte. It’s a mix of dances ranging from Polkas to the Calabaciado, according to ANMBF’s Marco Raygoza, and friends, that means it transcends our narrow-minded thoughts of Tex-Mex and journeys all the way to the Czech Republic and then some. As with any ANMBF production, audiences can also expect a showcase of gorgeous colorful costumes and traditional music. Experience the spirit of Northern Mexico 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. Tickets are $9 to $13. Call 214-828-0181 or visit liveatthemajestic.com.
