I miss my summer sand volleyball on Saturdays at Buddies but when one of my buds stepped on a big rusty nail that was it—Tetanus is so not a good look for me. Instead I play vicariously through tourneys on television, my old Power Spike: Pro Beach Volleyball video game and more than likely, the 2008 Cuervo Gold Crown Dallas Open. This is probably the only time tequila, the Texas sun and the game mix well. Bringing together the best professional volleyball players from around the world—I guess I’m out—the Dallas Open features both men and women duking it out for four days straight. That’s 96 hours of serving, setting and spiking. There are some of us who think that just might be heaven on earth—minus the nails. The Open runs Thursday through Sunday at the Ballpark in Arlington, 1000 Ballpark Way, starting at 8 a.m. For tickets and information, call 214-261-4713 or visit avp.com/dallas.
