The Dallas international Film Festival has earned a respectable spot among American film fests. Recent years have seen stars old and new walk the red carpet to their premieres while the residents of the eastern section of the city have packed the theaters that host new documentaries, foreign features, shorts and tribute screenings of all kinds. Proof of strengthened star power is evident at the festival’s Dallas Film Society’s Honors. Honoring a legendary producer (Eric Pleskow) and one of the brightest young stars in Hollywood’s sky (Gabourey Sidibe from Precious) makes this event worthy of a movie buff’s attendance. Add to those notable names to be honored: Laura Linney. If there’s a conversation of “Greatest modern actress without the last name of Streep,” the radiant Linney must surely be involved. Gaze upon these stars on April 20th at The Hotel Palomar, 5300 E. Mockingbird Lane. Visit diff2012.dallasfilm.org for more information.
