Update: Each location of Mama’s Daughters’ Diner will be closed this Wednesday to mark Norma’s Passing. The location on Royal Lane will remain open. Services will be held Wednesday, February 27th at the Prestonwood Baptist Church at 1 p.m. For more information check out the restaurant’s Facebook page.

Oak Cliff People is reporting that Norma Manis, perhaps best known for starting the cafe which bears her name, died this Saturday. Manis opened the first Norma’s Cafe in Oak Cliff, but sold the business in 1986 to Ed Murph, who has since opened subsequent locations.
Manis quickly jumped right back into the business. She opened opened up Mama’s Daughters’ Diner in the same year. There are now five locations of the family business in Dallas, Plano and Lewisville.
Murph issued a statement this morning which noted Manis’ passing and her contribution to the Norma’s brand, adding “my family and staff will always appreciate what she started.”
Manis’ daughters Nancy, Laurie, and Vickie could not be reached. A manager at the original Irving Avenue location said they were taking the week off to mark Manis’ passing.
