If you can overlook the “slap bass” tag on Zechs Marquise‘s Bandcamp page, you’ll probably find something redeeming in the El Paso group’s cloud. Getting Paid (Sargent House), the second and latest album from the Rodriguez-Lopez clan (Mars Volta frontman Omar’s younger brothers make up 3/5 of the band), is challenging in its fusion of prog, Latin, electronic and classic rock, but those who find the Mars Volta’s music (and Omar’s vocals) a bit too histrionic can rest easy: Getting Paid is all instrumental.

Get there early to see Daniel Huffman, aka New Fumes, pull the psychotronic threads of his prismatic 2011 Good Records Recordings LP Bump & Assassination. GRR just released a limited two-song seven-inch as well, which you might be able to get your paws on. Babar opens.
