KNON’s tagline, “Voice of the People,” is fitting not only because the publicly funded station has been a mainstay of the Dallas landscape for almost 30 years, but also in the choice of music for this 13th annual benefit concert. In Texas, we have our own inflection when it comes to singing and playing the blues, and the need to genuinely feel it has kept many a smoky barroom swaying until closing. This weekend, Smokin’ Joe Kubek, Leo Hull & the Texas Blues Machine and many more pack into Poor David’s over two days. The corporate-owned behemoth stations aren’t in need of funds, and they’re also not playing the blues.
