Will Rogers, asked during a Dallas visit what to do with the Trinity River, reportedly suggested “Pave it.” Most of the City Council agrees, wanting to rework a voter-approved parkway into a tollway running through the city’s flood plain. According to hysterical campaign propaganda, this is either the only solution to area transportation woes or a scheme to enrich a few businessmen shortly before unleashing Katrina II. At 11 a.m. Thursday (the second to last day of referendum early voting) at Cityplace, 2711 N. Haskell Ave., Councilwoman Angela Hunt and former Councilwoman Sandy Grey, who favor an ordinance requiring roads within the levees to offer park access and restricting their width and speed, will debate tollway lobbyists Craig Holcomb (a former Councilman) and Councilman Jerry Allen.
