The event will challenge participants to eat five miserably spicy doughnuts for the chance to win a golden fire extinguisher trophy. Our friend Whitney Filloon ordered a similar doughnut at Hypnotic last summer but couldn’t even finish it. Filloon’s version was topped with Tabasco sauce and she feared permanent damage to her esophagus. Now the doughnuts are even more intense.

The doughnuts are given a sheen of ghost-pepper glaze before they’re topped with fresh habaneros, fresh jalapeños, dried red chiles, cayenne pepper and drops of ghost pepper sauce. Hypnotic is billing the creation as the world’s hottest doughnut, and while there is no way to really verify the claim, it’s pretty clear it’s a really hot doughnut that you probably should not eat.

But someone will. They’ll eat five of them if they want to win this contest, which will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, August 31, at Hypnotic Donuts. If you want to sign up, send an email to info@hypnoticdonuts.com. The entry fee is $20 and you must sign up at least one day before the event.
