Scorsese’s Hugo swept the Oscars this year, taking home five of those little golden men. The 3-D creation is spooky, imaginative and delightful, and this Friday night, it’s also free. The Nasher Sculpture Center is hosting the Spring Break wrap-up party in its beautiful courtyard — and when the Nasher throws a bash, it goes all the way.

Dance around Picasso and Serra as local party band of choice, Emerald City, plays live at 7 p.m.. Then grab a snack (sandwiches, salads and drinks will be available for purchase) and have a picnic in this perfect weather. This is Texas after all, which means Summer is coming and that window for grazing lazily outdoors will soon be shut and weatherstripped until Autumn. The first 600 people who arrive will be issued a pair of 3D glasses and get to watch the movie outdoors. The overflow can still watch Hugo, albeit the old fashioned way (2-D) and inside the Nasher Hall.

Hugo, an imaginative tale of a tinkering orphan, screens at 9 p.m. as part of Nasher’s Late Night series. The whole thing is a beautiful free gift, and all that they ask is that you don’t bring your own food, drink or chairs. If you can’t make it to the sculpture haven on Friday night, you can check out the museum at half-price admission through Sunday. Go on, Dallas. Get artsy and embrace Spring.
