Are you ready for full-service Mix-Mex? Genaro Silva owned Genaro’s Tropical, Moctezuma’s and Garmo’s back in the ’80s and ’90s but by 1995 his restaurants had closed. Since then he’s worked in various real estate and construction endeavors. But a news release sent out today announces Silva is back. The new Genaro’s will be located on the northeast corner of Abrams Road and Mockingbird Lane in Hillside Village Shopping Center and is expected to late this summer.

It’s a big space. The 4,000-square-foot restaurant will seat 120 diners, and the patio will seat another 150. Menu items range from linguini with clams to enchiladas and other Tex-Mex offerings. It’s a cover all the type of offering that leaves me wondering how much the restaurant world has change in Dallas in the past 20 years.

I don’t know much about the original Genaro’s Tropical. It closed in 1988. According the the news release ,Godiva chocolates, imported cigars and Champagne by the glass were offered to customers as they entered the place. I don’t think you should expect that sort of treatment with lunch prices from $10-$16 and dinner prices will range from $14-$25.

What you can expect is what Silva calls Mix-Mex cuisine — a combination of central and coastal Mexican with European and other Latin influences. If you’re watching your heart, you might be interested to hear the menu will not use lard or shortening and will feature organic beef and sustainable seafood. The kitchen will also use local produce wherever possible. Here’s hoping for a Lemley tomato salsa.
