Motor Trend weighs in on Texas’ Drive a Clean Machine program — by, more or less, encouraging folks from outside the state to drive their exhaust-spewing beater to the Dallas, Houston or Austin areas so they can cash in on the $3,000 exchange program.

Looking to upgrade to a shiny new ride with eco-friendly low emissions? Well come on down to the state of Texas and sell that gross polluter today — no qualifying trade-in will be refused!

Only, of course, there are several caveats attached to the program — chiefly, the income cut-off. Still, notes the mag, it’s still the “most generous” program of its kind in the U.S. and A. –Robert Wilonsky
