In parts one and two of our fall fashion series, we covered this fall’s looks and necessities for the closet. What’s the point of spending all your cash on a new wardrobe, however, if it’s paired with dull, patchy skin and press-on nails from the ’80s?
To help complete your new and polished look, we visited beautician Victoria Tran at her always-buzzing Posh Nail Spa in Uptown. From manicures to waxing, she gave us her tips on this fall’s trends for grooming. Primp on past the jump.
On lashes…
Lashes, of course, are the fuller the better! Most people are turning towards lash extensions for this look instead of spending tons of money on expensive mascara. Clients need to do their research before choosing where to get lash extensions because bad products and skills can cause premature loss of your own lashes. So cheaper is not always the best case!
On this fall’s hues…
Some of the trendy nail colors for the fall are shades of gray, green, navy and our most favorite bordeaux.
Both OPI and ESSIE have a great fall collection. Some of my favorites are OPI: Road House Blues (Deep Sapphire) and Uh-Oh Roll Down the Window (Olive Green); ESSIE: Power Clutch (Dark Grey with Green tint) and Carry On (Dark Purple with red undertones).
On going natural…
Acrylics are not very popular due to the high demands of gel manicures. When women step into a salon, they [tend to] immediately ask for gel manicures. This particular manicure can last up to three weeks if done properly. People are wanting to go natural and apply gel colors after receiving a manicure or pedicure. Now there are over hundreds of colors to choose from compared to two years ago.
More and more men, also, are starting to get manicures and pedicures frequently. They realized that women are not the only ones that need grooming and this service is just not a treat, but more so a necessity.
On eyebrows going towards au naturel, as well…
Full eyebrows are definitely a trend now so don’t wax your brows too thin. Just a clean up with a natural shape. Bikini wax is always a must! However, don’t do the full Brazilian. Leaving a thin landing strip is much more sexy.
On our biggest beauty mistake…
Skincare is not a big concern with Americans compared to European and Asian women. People here in the US like to spend a ton of money on expensive make-up and other beauty essentials but skimp out on skincare products. I don’t care how expensive your make-up may be, but if you don’t have good healthy skin, it will not look very attractive. I always stress the importance of getting skin care treatments often (facials, microdermabrasion, peels, etc.) to my clients.
On protecting yourself during fall’s falling temperatures…
In cooler weather, you would need to have a very good moisturizer that would hydrate the skin throughout the day. If you have combination to oily skin, then I would suggest having two types of moisturizer: A heavy moisturizer to use at night with anti-aging agents and a lighter moisturizer for daytime usage.
Another essential product is a good lip balm. My favorites are MAC Lip Conditioner and then Burt’s Bees for the all natural consumers. Last but not least, is a good hand cream that help seals in moisture to protect the hands and cuticles from the environment. One of my favorites is Neutrogena Norwegian Formula Hand Cream.
