This week, we’re trying out the happy hour menu of Screen Door. Screen Door and the three other restaurants in One Arts Plaza — Jorge’s, Fedora’s, Tei-An — are offering $5 happy hour small dishes all day on Tuesdays.
Where: Screen Door, 1722 Routh St.
When: 4-6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursdays and all day Tuesdays
The Scene: Happy hour is available outside on the patio and inside in at the bar.
The Deal: $5 appetizers include pulled pork nachos, “Voodoo” cheddar popcorn, meatloaf sliders, fried green tomatoes, hummus and shrimp and grits.
The Steal: If you just want a taste without spending all the dough, the shrimp and grits are the way to go.
The Con: Portions are tiny compared with other restaurants’ happy hour offerings.
Eat: Fried green tomatoes.
Skip: It seems bizarre spending $5 on cheddar popcorn, especially since Tillman’s offers a truffle oil version for free.
Lushworthy: The sangria changes daily.
The bottom line: Go to the Screen Door happy hour for a taste of each dish, but don’t expect to get full. The free bread basket — filled with goodies like scones and cornbread — might help.
