With all the huzzahs being handed out over The Dallas Morning News‘ breaking-new photography Pulitzer Prize–an award that’s utterly meaningless, says Slate–seems one local media outlet’s been given short shrift concerning its own recent kudos. A few weeks ago, the Radio-Television News Directors Association handed out the regional Edward R. Murrow Awards, a prestigious honor for broadcast folks, and KTVT-Channel 11 garnered three: for best spot news coverage (a “fiery crash” on I-20), for best continuing coverage (Sarah Dodd’s early stories about the FBI’s City Hall probe, and whatever happened to that, anyway?) and for overall excellence. KDFW-Channel 4 also won a Murrow, for best news series (“The Mayor’s New Road,” about Laura Miller’s freshly paved street). But danged if I can find anything about the Murrows in Dallas’ Only Daily, on its Web site or using Nexis. Odd: The DMN has covered the Murrows in the past, as recently as 2004. Oh, wait. Belo-owned WFAA-Channel 8 won a Murrow that year. This year, nada–though KVUE-TV, Belo’s Austin affiliate, took home a Murrow. –Robert Wilonsky
