So, he told us in February he was done with the news business — was gonna take some time off, spend time with the missus and family, maybe do some teaching at SMU. Not so fast: KTVT-Channel 11 just sent word that Tracy Rowlett has signed a contract extension that “will postpone Rowlett’s planned retirement by at least two years, until July 2010.” Only a couple of days ago, CBS11 president and general manager Steve Mauldin said he was working on Rowlett to change his mind about taking retirement; guess it worked.

Rowlett will anchor the 5 p.m. newscast and keep on offering his Perspective. And he’s not giving up on his goal of toppling his top-rated former employer. “I’m looking forward to being here when the station emerges as number one in the market,” Tracy says. –Robert Wilonsky
