Back in October we gazed up at the old waterfall billboard on Stemmons Freeway — up on Goat Hill, where Baby Doe’s Matchless Mine used to stand — and noticed the water had done gone dry. And we got our answer as to why: It was gettin’ a makeover and nothing more, and promise was the old Pearl sign — which, when I was a kid, I used to think was actually full of beer — would return sooner than later.
Turns out, KXAS-Channel 5 is even more obsessed with the city-designed “Extraordinarily Significant Sign” and brings news today that it’s back and better than ever: “Crews updated the ‘mountains,’ the 10,000-gallon water system and
improved the lighting to include energy efficient fiber optic
lighting. Architects also adding more realistic, native landscaping.”
