Oooooh, can’t wait: We’re about 15 minutes away from the Senate Subcommittee on Communications, Technology, and the Internet “Future of Journalism” hearing, where, as we noted yesterday, Dallas Morning News publisher and CEO Jim Moroney will testify alongside The Wire creator David Simon and Arianna Huffington. C-SPAN 3 will carry the entirety of the Sen. John Kerry-led hearing starting at 1:30, but for those who miss it, we’ll have Moroney’s testimony in its entirety on Unfair Park later today.
Moroney was invited to speak by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who will intro the DMN bigwig. As for what he’ll speak about, his own newspaper just provided this sneak peek: “Moroney will urge lawmakers to end the ‘free ride’ and help newspapers ‘obtain reasonable compensation.'” Looking forward to finding out precisely what that means. Me, I hope “Free Ride” never ends, all right, all right, all right.
Update at 1:42 p.m.: The hearing’s been delayed slightly and should begin shortly. Till then, C-SPAN’s killing time with its call-in show, which is like a blog-comments-on-tape recorded in a studio located in a bunker deep below Crazytown.
Update at 2 p.m.: The hearing still hasn’t started; it’s been delayed by a vote on the Senate floor, which is about to wrap up. Till then … Nancy Pelosi! But a Friend of Unfair Park notes in the comments that Moroney’s testimony — all nine pages — is available right here.
