Something I thought I’d never write in 2011: Todd Dodge is the new quarterbacks coach at Pitt.

By now I figured Dodge — who ascended from historic success at Southlake Carroll High School to a gig at North Texas — would be choosing from primo Division I jobs in the wake of multiple Sun Belt Conference championships and bowl appearances.

His innovative offense would befuddle college opponents just as it did high school defenses and off he’d go …

Gulp.

Will you step up to support Dallas Observer this year?

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If the Dallas Observer matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.

$30,000

After going 79-1 and winning four state championships in his last five years at SLC, Dodge flopped in Denton. At UNT he went 6-37 and authored some of the worst defenses in the history of college football.

At the time of his hiring by UNT way back in 2006 I thought it was genius. A natural progression. Oops.

Four years later Dodge, North Texas and Southlake Carroll are worse off. In retrospect, he should’ve never left.
