The second debate between Texas Senatorial candidates Ted Cruz and Beto O’Rourke, previously set for Sunday night, has been postponed, the University of Houston announced Friday.
Rather than taking on his challenger for another hour, Cruz will remain in Washington to participate in Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination process over the weekend.
The university and its media partners, ABC-13 and Univision 45 in Houston, are working on finding a new date for the debate.
The Sept. 30 debate between Senator Ted Cruz and Congressman Beto O’Rourke at the University of Houston has been postponed. Senator Cruz will be in Washington, D.C. for weekend votes.

Sunday night’s forum was set to be a town-hall style debate, a format that could’ve favored O’Rourke. The candidates’ third debate is scheduled for Oct. 16 in San Antonio.
Their first debate, held at SMU last Friday, was largely seen as a draw, but O’Rourke has capitalized on the exposure he gained at the event to set a goal of raising $5 million by the end of September.
A committee vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation is scheduled for later Friday, followed by a procedural vote on Saturday. A final vote on President Donald Trump’s second nomination to the Supreme Court is set for Tuesday.
